Entry requirements
Admission to the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery requires a secondary school diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad, recognised as suitable according to current legislation.
The requirements and procedures for access are regulated at national level by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, by means of laws and annual decrees.
The questions in the admission test cover topics in Logic (deductive, inductive and text comprehension), General Culture, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
Applicants are selected by means of a national ranking list; it is therefore assumed that admitted students have an adequate initial preparation, achieved in their previous studies. In addition to knowledge of a cultural nature useful for attendance in the first year, candidates should possess good human contact and teamwork skills, the ability to analyse and solve problems, the ability to acquire new knowledge and information independently and be able to evaluate it critically (Maastricht, 1999), good attitudes and sound motivational components.
Students who, despite having passed the admission test, score low (threshold set annually) in the basic disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) are enrolled with Additional Educational Obligations (OFA). The departmental teaching structure organises supplementary and preparatory teaching activities aimed at the relevant remedial work in the first year of the course; the results achieved in these activities are checked as part of the assessment of the corresponding courses.
Foreign students are required to have an adequate knowledge of Italian, a requirement that is verified prior to the admission test.
