Why in Parma?
The degree course prepares for the profession of social worker, which can be exercised, either as a self-employed or as an employee, in the social services of administrations, institutions and third-sector organisations. The training includes activities aimed primarily at acquiring basic knowledge in the fields of sociology, psychology, law and economics. Graduates are also expected to acquire social service methodologies. To this end, the teaching modules relating to the professional area also make use of experienced social service professionals.
The quality of teaching is also ensured through workshops, in-depth studies on practical cases and teaching experiences, so as to guarantee a case-based and practical approach, which is highly appreciated by students. Attendance is compulsory for some subjects of the course. Traineeships are compulsory; external traineeships are performed at public and private institutions throughout Italy and abroad.
The course of study is within the Department of Law, Political and International Studies - selected by the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) among the Departments of Excellence for the five-year period 2023-2027.

Family, minors, adults, the disabled, the elderly, foreigners: these are some of the areas of intervention of the social worker, in which students may work after passing the State Examination. This profession is in demand, either independently or as an employee, in public or private facilities: Local Health Authorities, Hospitals, Municipalities, Regions, Prefectures, Ministries, Public Institutions, Social Cooperatives.
